37-year-old, Nayib Bukele, is El Salvador's youngest president.
He is of Palestinian descent, his parents having fled in the early 20th century when Palestine was under Muslim Ottoman Turkish rule and beginning to oppress Christians and Jews when they allied with Germany in World War One.
(Read my book '1917. From Palestine to the Land of Israel.')
With many Christian Palestinians, his family fled to Central America.
His wife has Jewish roots. Her ancestors probably escaped the Spanish & Portuguese anti-Jewish Expulsion and Inquisition, but adopted Catholicism to avoid persecution.
Palestinians were quick to take pride in him and praise him until they discovered he is passionately pro-Israel.
While in Israel this month,he visited the Western Wall below the Temple Mount, laid a wreath at Yad Vashem, met leading Israeli politicians, and attended the International Mayor's Conference in Israel's capital. Hopefully, El Salvador will join the USA in moving their embassy to Jerusalem.
